approaching a quarter of a million tons, apples have a special place in Serbian agriculture.
Main varieties include the Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Idared, Jonathan, Red Delicious, Jonagold, Melrose, and Gloucester.
The Budimka apple, a treasured local variety, has long been a market favorite. With an intense, sharp flavor and deep red color that
sometimes extends into the fruit, these are ideal for processing, cooking--and eating fresh from the orchard.
Other local varieties in Serbia are the Kolacara, Djula, Petrovaca, Krstovaca, and Kozara. Serbia is also a significant producer of
organic apples.
